Ruth Barnett Fowers Obituary (1920 - 2008)

On July 7, 2008, Ruth Barnett Fowers passed into Heaven, where she now dances with Les, her eternal love. Ruth died of natural causes in Clinton, Utah. She was born October 13, 1920 in Plain City, Utah. She was the eldest of four daughters born to Andrew L. and Genevieve Jenkins Barnett. Ruth attended schools in Plain City and Ogden graduating from Weber High School in 1938. After attending Weber College for one year she began working for Madsen Furniture. After 21 years, she moved to the Weber School District, working an additional 27 years. She was a board member, Secretary of the Board, and State President of the Utah Association of Educational Secretaries. She volunteered for many years at the Weber, Morgan Health Department and as a pink lady at McKay Dee Hospital. Service to others was always an integral part of her life. She met her eternal dance partner, Les Fowers; they were married March 27, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived on Childs Avenue where she resided until moving to Roy in 2000. Ruth and Les were set apart as Tenth Ward dance instructors in 1944. In 1945 they were set apart as dance instructors in the North Weber Stake and then on March 30, 1950, they were appointed district dance supervisors over five stakes in the Ogden/North Weber area. They were dance partners until 1979 when Les passed away. They nurtured and taught hundreds of young people the joy of dancing. Ruth faithfully served in many capacities for the LDS church including Sunday School, MIA, and Relief Society. She and Les enjoyed visiting temples throughout the western area which she continued to do throughout her life. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and special niece Kris. She is survived by sisters Bernice (Weldon) Cisney, Beverly (Blaine) Ames, and LuJeanne (Bob; deceased) Peters. Also surviving are 11 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. Her life was centered around her love for these children. She loved each and every one as her own, this love was returned by each in their own way. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of Comfort Keepers and Country Pines. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., where friends and family may call on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Hooper Cemetery.
