OGDEN - Genevieve May Morgan, 86, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior and loved ones on November 26, 2008.
Genevieve, known as Jenny by all who loved her, was born September 3, 1922 in American Falls, Idaho. She was the seventh of eight children born to Joseph Eugene and Agnes Louise Lee May.
Genevieve's childhood was spent on a wheat farm in Rockland, Idaho. Jenny recounted many tender memories over her years of growing up in Rockland Valley.
After graduating from Rockland High School, Jenny attended Utah Agricultural College (now Utah State University) where she graduated in Home Economics in 1944.
Jenny worked as a home economics teacher in Tooele and then as a dietician at Salt Lake County Hospital.
In 1946, Jenny was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rochester Minnesota. She formed many lifelong friendships with her fellow missionaries and with the residents of that area.
One of the duties of sister missionaries in Rochester was to visit all LDS members who were at the Mayo Clinic for treatment. It was then that she met her future husband, Thomas "Tom" Daniel Morgan.
Jenny returned from her mission in June of 1948 and, after a brief courtship, married Tom on October 8, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Their first home was in San Francisco, CA where Tom worked and lived.
In 1951 they built a house next door to her parents, who had retired to South Ogden.
Her children have wonderful memories of growing up on 42nd Street with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins close by. In fact, many of the cousins considered their Uncle Tom and Aunt Jenny to be their second set of parents.
Genevieve served faithfully in the LDS church in many capacities. She was the First Relief Society President of the newly formed 65th Ward in the South Ogden Stake. She served in many other callings throughout the next 40 years.
Jenny and Tom lived out their lives in their home in South Ogden. The center of their existence was their six children and the many members of their extended family. Many cousins went camping all over the western states with Uncle Tom and Aunt Jenny and all their children.
Jenny is survived by her six children: Brian (Launa) , Janice, Joseph (Wendy), Christine Bair (Kenneth), Shelly Costley (John) and Dana Pevey (Jay C.). 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Grace Pusey, Lesa Ralphs, Mary Noble and Glenna Nelson.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband of 55 years, two grandchildren, brothers, Lee and Ivan May and sister, Lila May Evertsen.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at South Ogden 6th Ward, 4380 Orchard Ave. Friends may call on Friday, November 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and Saturday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 at the church.
