George Richard Palmer Obituary (1924 - 2016)

George Richard Palmer July 8, 1924 - August 15, 2016 recording. Our loving husband, father and grandfather, G. Richard Palmer passed away August 15, 2016 of natural causes. He was born in Price, Utah on July 8, 1924 to Joseph Earl and Elmina Taylor Palmer. Richard served an LDS mission to New England which included parts of Canada. He graduated from the University of Utah and later attended Brigham Young University for further study. Richard married Barbara Glade in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 10, 1951. They were blessed with six children and have lived in Provo, Salt Lake, and Ogden. Richard was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served many callings. He spent his life serving those around him. He was a wonderful example of a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He was a teacher in the Ogden School District teaching at Ogden High for many years. He also worked at First Security Bank for many years after retiring from teaching. During his retirement, Richard loved working as a crossing guard for the South Ogden Police Department for 10 years. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, one son, Bill (Sylvia), and four daughters, Elizabeth (Scott) Italasano, Mary (Bill) Tait, Jean (Mark) Hansen and Emily (Quinn) Woody. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first son, G. Richard Palmer Jr., one brother William, and two sisters, Earla Young and Anne Vetter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS perpetual education fund. The Family would like to thank his doctors and the IHC homecare nurses who were so kind these last few weeks. Funeral services will be held at 11am.m. on Saturday August 20, 2016 at the Shadow Valley ward building, 5191 Old Post Road, Ogden. A viewing will held on Friday, August 19th from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd and prior to the services at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
