George Hemmert

NO. OGDEN - George Verme Hemmert, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006 in Ogden, Utah after a valiant struggle with a lengthy illness.

George was born May 9, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Willard Wright and Katherine Verme Hemmert. He was the oldest of four children and their only son. He married Betty Mae Summers January 7, 1946.

George was a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities. George was a faithful home teacher, too.

George was a career officer in the United States Navy serving for 18 A 1/2 years, retiring in 1964. His first career afforded him many opportunities to serve his country. After his retirement from the Navy, George started a new career with the State of Nevada where he worked for 25 years, retiring in 1989.

George and Betty returned to Ogden following his retirement and settled in North Ogden. George worked in the Ogden temple as well as volunteering at the Homeless Veterans Office.

George loved his family. He was known as a hard worker, always providing for his four sons, Tracy (Rita) Hemmert, Roger Hemmert, Dennis (Helen) Hemmert and Russ (Tammy) Hemmert. In addition to his family here, George had a passion for genealogy. He loved researching his ancestors. He also loved teaching others how to do the work he was so passionate for.

Many thanks to Hearts for Hospice who lovingly cared for Dad these past few months. They are angels on earth!

He is survived y his wife, Betty, his four sons, 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Billy (Orlin) Smith and Joy Erickson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Darlene (Golden) Hardy and his brother-in-law Richard Erickson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View Second Ward, 250 W. Elberta Drive, where family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Services under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Ogden.

Interment in Bothwell Cemetery.
