George Eugene Laney

George Eugene Laney of Camas Valley Oregon, passed away on August 19th 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on November 19th 1934, in Bellingham Washington to Elwood Eugene Laney and Fay Pamela Jensen.

George grew up in Brigham City, UT and on September 2nd 1955, he married Janice Earl in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised a family of five children as they moved across Utah, New Mexico and California, eventually making their home in Camas Valley Oregon, in the summer of 1978.

As a youth George achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He went on to become a smokejumper in the Rocky Mountain region before pursuing higher education at the University of Utah, where he earned a degree in civil engineering and became a licensed surveyor. He worked for the Corp of Engineers at White Sands Missile Base in Las Cruces and in Albuquerque NM before he moved on to the U.S. Forest Service where he worked until retirement.

George was an avid genealogist and lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where his faith guided him throughout his life.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice, their son John Laney, his parents Elwood and Fay Laney, and his sister Judy Neese. He is survived by his children: Michael (and Linda Dahlberg) Laney of Coos Bay, OR; Peggy (and Tom) Bidwell of Camas Valley, OR; [Rhonda Reid] Laney of Fairview, UT; Hyrum (and Nancy Stephens) Laney of Camas Valley, OR; and Mathew Laney of Seattle, WA; and sisters Carol Jensen and Ruth Higgins. George was also a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward his spirit and love.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Brigham City Cemetery, 300 East 300 South, Brigham City, Utah. A Viewing will be held prior to the service from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah.
