Georgina Campbell Deeter Obituary (1932 - 2010)

Georgina C. Deeter SOUTH OGDEN- Georgina C, Deeter, age 77, died October 15, 2010 of heart failure at Ogden Regional Hospital (St Benedict's as she preferred to call it) where she received compassionate and exceptional care. She was born beautiful on November 10, 1932, to Hector and Pearl Campbell, later divorced, neither of whom survive her. She met the extraordinary challenges of her painfully turbulent childhood by resolving that her family would be stable like the rock she became. One day while working as a carhop at The Mug, she served one right-frosty Hires root beer to a dapper, handsome, and passionate young man, Robert A. Deeter. Her eyes recommended his Little Joe image to her heart; to his heart was recommended the strawberry-haired Isolde in his eyes. Pupils dilated, their souls mingled like mist and dew in a singular breeze on a sunlit, rosy, and meadowed morning. He became she; she, he, and the one-become-two became the two-become-three, the she-he he-she; we! inseparable from then on. They eloped not long after to Elko, Nevada, where they married on December 3, 1949, against all convention and reason, these Blue Denim lovers not about to be deterred by the objections of protocol, family, and God. They were desperate. They wrestled like struggling lovers, like saints in love with demons and angels; conceived, and bore themselves four pink and feisty sons who survive to this day. Life grew round and full like the ordeal it is. She worked hard all of her life to raise and support her family. She took a job as a checker at a home-town grocery store. Later she worked at the IRS where she supervised the extraction unit until her husband's lungs failed and her heart went into atrial fibrulation, both of which would prove fatal. When her husband died, she was reunited with the daughter she had been prevented from raising because the world had invented too many reasons to separate mothers from their children if circumstances didn't meet its bigoted and unmerciful standards. What a boon that daughter, Carol Godfrey, became! And life started anew. Many, were her friends, for unconditional, was her support. Together, they learned to thrive in dark days and to live deep--especially when in pain. Happy days abounded for women who permed and colored each others hair. Who met on Tuesdays to play pinochle or blackjack for dimes, and to gorge on too much bridge mix for innumerable, but too few, years. They put on jolly pounds like slap-happy pagans. God bless them alla"especially her sister-in-law, Shirley and her deliriously co-dependent friend and adopted daughter, Vicky! She is survived by her daughter and four sons and her bragging rights about them: Carol Godfrey, Dr. Randy Deeter (Anchorage, Alaska,) Rick Deeter, Ron Deeter, and Barry Deeter (Price, Utah). She has 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wally Crittenden and his non-pareil wife Madeline, as well as her sisters Peggy and Marilyn; all constants in her life. Spry, but suffering from heart failure herself, her soul-mate, the Indefatigable Buttons, lives, leaps, coughs, grieves, and breathes. Family and friends may call at the 854 Washington Blvd. Myers Mortuary in Ogden, Monday, Oct 18, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. Elegies, eulogies, and memories of her life will be said, read, and celebrated Tuesday, Oct 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. as part of her funeral services. Come one and all, pipes poor sad Danny-Boy! A saint, it is said does not pass on the suffering she endures in her life, but absorbs it into her bones. She participates willfully and joyfully in the Gesthemene of life. At the end, her heart bursts with compassion and radiates the light of the world. Mother's heart tore during her final surgery. Great things happen when a great soul dies. The earth quakes. The air sobs. The sun stands still and pale. Clouds attack. And the moon gives up its last sliver of light and grieves. Man sinks into the heath. Surely a great soul has passed from the world only to radiate the world's first and eastern light into our own bursting hearts. Bones support flesh, but Blood runs deep.
