George William Everett Obituary (1926 - 2009)

George William Everett CLINTON - George W. Everett, 82, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009. He was born December 7, 1926 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the son of Arch Curtis and Grace May Everett. He married Margene Anderson on January 9, 1948 in Clearfield, Utah. He joined the Navy in December 1943 and later became a member of Seabees Naval construction unit. He served in WWII and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. His tours included Guam, Okinowa, Philippines, Tonsin, Peking China and Korea. He was a Machinest Mate and served in the United States Navy until June 25, 1946. He joined the Marine Corp and served until September 9, 1947. He enlisted and was activated in the Naval Reserve and served as a Fireman until he was honorably discharged on February 26, 1951. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve where he served until he was honorably discharged on September 4, 1951. During his military career, he earned the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, China Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Campaign ribbon. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and spent most of his life in the construction industry building roads throughout the state. He later worked as a security guard with Pinkerton, Burns Detective Agency and Unita Security and was a guard for Freeport Center and Standard Examiner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was an avid woodworker who loved working with his hands. He started out by creating original wood toys for his children and grandchildren and then opened his own shop - George's All Wood Toys. He loved donating his toys to under privileged children and was awarded the Every Day People Award January 20, 1984. He is survived by his wife Margene and eight children. Two brothers, Dale Everett, Fairfax, VA; Arch Everett, Jr. CT; and one sister, Florence Marks, Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, one grandson and great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Clinton City Cemetery.
