Gerald Harrison Hardy
Our loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gerald ("Jerry" "Sonny") passed away peacefully on October 24, 2015. He was born on December 23, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Jared Harrison and Lavina Johnson Hardy.
Gerald attended Ogden City Schools and attended Weber State College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1953 during the Korean conflict and was in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1958. He chose for his career to work for the U. S. Air Force Logistic Command at Hill Air Force Base, Utah retiring in 1984 after 36 years.
On December 6, 1952, Gerald married his sweetheart, Constance S. Santos at Sangly Point Air Station P.I. They had 42 wonderful years together until her death in 1994. In 1995 he married Marjorie S. Mecham who he later divorced. Gerald married Yvonne Slama in June 2003, she passed away in 2013.
Gerald was a faithful, active member of the St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and golf were only a few of his interests. He also enjoyed painting, writing, reading, cooking, and working on computers, but he would choose people any time over his interests. He was a thoughtful, caring man and put others before himself. He had a big and generous heart, a dry sense of humor, and a quick wit. He put his love of cooking to good use by hosting the food at many a family reunion. Family wasn't the only ones to be delighted by his culinary expertise as he also cooked for the senior citizens at the senior center he attended.
Gerald walked every day and found peace in his daily strolls. When the weather didn't cooperate, he could be found walking in the mall sharing his friendly smile with everyone he met. Everyone could always count on Gerald as he helped with every project his brothers or brother-in-law concocted. The world will really miss his happy countenance, big heart, and supportive and loving nature. He is dearly loved by those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his two wives; parents and 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Gerald is survived by his children, Patricia (Richard) Palmer of Roy and Joseph (CheriLynn) Hardy of Brigham City; 6 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Rose Marie Gomm of Roy, Merrill (Judy) Hardy of South Ogden, Sharon Erp of Salt Lake City and many nieces and nephews.
