Geraldine Bowles

–

Ogden, Utah

The elegant, graceful whirlwind we lovingly called Gerry, born Geraldine Yvonne Brunsberg to Oscar and Clara Brunsberg (Fertile, MN) on July 18, 1933 was like a stick of dynamite, small but mighty.

While attending Robinson’s School of Beauty in Minneapolis, MN on a scholarship and working at a Greek Restaurant across the street, she met her husband on June 10th, 1953 on a Saturday night at 7pm where he stopped for dinner. After sitting in her closed section, he refused to move, and had dinner. He was working that summer for a family connection, Mr. Huot of Huot Tools. After wearing her down relentlessly for three days, she finally agreed to see the movie Moulin Rouge. She slept through the entire movie!

She married the love of her life John (Jack) Elliott Bowles on Sunday September 03, 1953 in Dallas, TX after a 3-month courtship in Minneapolis, MN and a trip to Dallas that unbeknownst to her was a one-way ticket that ended in a surprise wedding proposal.

Always running at 150 mph while the rest of us tried to keep up, she celebrated her deeply ingrained faith by dedicating her life to her family, designing beautiful spaces, creating delicious meals, enjoying a good book, playing the piano and her unique style of telling stories.

Across the years, Gerry was an American Red Cross Nurse, a Girl Scout, a Robinson’s School of Beauty Member scholarship recipient, a writer for the Officer’s Wives Clubs at several US AFB installations including Maxwell AFB, Hill AFB, and Mountain Home AFB, an Interior Designer, an American Homes Magazine Parade of Homes Recipient all while being a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband, John E Bowles of Harrisville UT, her son, John T Bowles (Donell) of Plain City UT, and daughters Barbara A Sorensen (Boise ID) and Nicki L J Bowles (Willard UT), 7 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren and 13 Great Great-Grandchildren.

After 93 years here with almost 73 years of marriage, she passed away on August 21, 2026 at home with her family. Gerry has slowed down to a whisper here on earth, but Heaven just got a little bit rowdier and a lot more Norwegian-Swede! She was a force of nature to be reckoned with who will be remembered with all the love, style and grace she embodied. We Love you, Mom.

The family would like to extend our thanks for your prayers and thoughtfulness in our time of loss. A special Thank You to Judy and Artistic Hair for their kindness and friendship with Gerry. For the last decade, Gerry looked forward every week to chatting with Judy, Kristy and other staff and patrons while having her hair styled. Also, we want to thank Amber, Ashley, Nikki, Misty and others who assisted in her Hospice care. Thank you, all.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, on Friday, September 4, 2026. Graveside services will be held at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd, at 12:30 p.m.
