Gloria G. Barney Thurston Obituary (1919 - 2006)

GLORIA GREENWOOD BARNEY THURSTON ROY -- Gloria Greenwood Barney Thurston, 86, passed away March 8, 2006 at McKay-Dee Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born April 9, 1919 in Roy, Utah, the daughter of Reuben Percival and Ethel Melissa Rogers Greenwood. She was a surgical technician at McKay-Dee Hospital for many years. She married Dan Dawson, later divorced. In 1948 she married Bobby Ray Barney; they later divorced. In August of 1989 she married Edwin Ross Thurston in the Ogden LDS Temple; he passed away several years ago. Gloria was an active member of the Ogden Valley Deaf Branch. She served an LDS mission in Valencia California; was a long-time Sunday school teacher; second counselor in the Relief Society, served as secretary in the Primary/Activity and Young Women's organizations. Gloria also volunteered and was prominent in the deaf community. Surviving are her children, Reuben G. (Patricia) Barney, Sandy; Geri Barney, Roy; Robert Barney, West Jordan; Barbara Cartwright, Riverdale; and Josephine (Donald W.) Davis of Kingman, AZ; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Ross Thurston, a daughter, Lorna Dawson Bradley; and four brothers, Arden, Virgil, Stuart and Bert Greenwood. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 13, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West where family and friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services.
