Golda Norlyene Ohran Harding Obituary (1926 - 2011)

Golda Norlyene Ohran Harding, finally ready for her next great adventure, yielded her life to the life beyond on Saturday 25, 2011. She was born on November 13, 1926 in Burlingame, California, to Golda Parkin and Carl Reginald Ohran. She experienced loss at an early age when her mother and brother died in a car accident when she was 10. She moved to Utah with her father when she was 16. She met Eldon Roland Harding while in a class at BYU and they were married on June 20, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. She attended McKinley School, graduated from American Fork High School and achieved her Masters from Brigham Young University in Art & Creativity. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a member of Ninety-Nines organization of Women's Pilots and flew a solo transcontinental flight across the United States. She was a Toast Mistress, taught 3rd and 4th grades at South Jordan Elementary. She taught art in Orem Utah at Lincoln Jr. High, Orem Junior High School, at Provo Canyon School and was a lifetime UEA member. She was a dedicated Latter-day Saint where she served in Primary, Cub Scouts, organist, accompanist, and Music Director. She was an accomplished artist, pianist, organist, sang in many choirs and held the lead in several BYU operas. The epitome of glamour, she was known by many names; daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, artist, mentor, grandmother, and great grandmother. She excelled in all, showing love to everyone she came in contact with. She often welcomed others who needed help into her home with open arms. She taught us all how to appreciate the beauty in everything and stay perpetually young at heart. She was a world traveler and was always up for an adventure, as was especially evident when she went sky-diving when she was 70. Her family cherishes the legacy she has left behind. Special thanks to the Staff in the Cottage at Legacy House in Bountiful and Sharon with Rocky Mountain Hospice who helped her family care for her during the last years of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Duane; husband, Eldon Harding; son, Gary Mark Harding; grandson, Timothy; and great-granddaughter, Lily Eve Harding. She is survived by her children; Eldon Randy Harding (Susan) of Mesa, AZ, Roland Duane Harding (Vivian) of West Jordan, UT, Carl Lance Harding of American Fork, UT, and Debra Kay Harding Thomas (Nicholas) of Layton, UT as well as 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Saturday July 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Fork 24th Ward, 975 North 60 East, American Fork, UT. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 on Saturday at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the American Fork City Cemetery.
