1947 ~ 2009

WEST POINT - Gordon returned home to Heavenly Father on Monday, August 17, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on April 14, 1947 in Ogden, Utah the 2nd of six children born to Nelsen W. Arave and Jane McArthur (Arave).

Gordon married the love of his life Susan Rohmer on May 26, 1967, in Hooper, Utah. Their honeymoon was very short as he left the week after to serve 18 months in the Vietnam War.

Gordon and Susan raised four wonderful children together. He loved to fix anything that was broken, on most days you could find him out in the garage working on some ones car, with his best friend Jeter his little dog at his side. He belonged to the Duster's Motor Cycle Club. Gordon worked at the Hill Air Force Base Transportation Dept, as a heavy machinery mechanic for over 30 years. In 1999 he received the Hill Air Force Base Civilian of the year award and later that year had the high honor of receiving the National Civilian of the year award. Gordon was a very generous man, who would do everything he could to help someone in need. He was loved by a lot of people and had many friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Joyce, brother, David and both parents.

He is survived by his wife Susan Arave, and four children: Shane (Kristy) Arave, Clearfield; Char (Bart) Oleson, Huntsville, Scott Arave, West Point, and Ryan (Maggie) Arave, Syracuse; sister, Carolyn (Randy) Dalton, Clinton; brother, Craig (Coral) Arave, Ivins, UT; sister, Julie (Mike) Coons, Layton; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. We will miss you.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy. Friends may call on Wednesday at the mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment, Hooper City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
