GORDON R. YURTH
LAYTON -- Gordon R. Yurth died at 4:00 p.m. on September 11, 2004, after a prolonged battle with diabetes, congestive heart failure, emphysema and kidney failure.
Gordon was born April 23, 1923 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Martin Gottlieb and Sarah Gladys Fairchild Yurth. He lived his life as a warrior. He served his country in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam, and more than once "flew the hump" to China. He was decorated many times for bravery, valor and service to his country.
On August 25, 1944, he married his sweetheart, Barbara Ellen Dees, in Merced, California. He, his wife and four sons were found miraculously in Novato, California by LDS missionaries in 1958, and not long after their conversion that year were sealed to each other and to their children in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.
He served his Church faithfully for many years, as a bishop's counselor, high councilman, teacher, Explorer leader, and friend to all. He and his wife served as temple workers in the Ogden LDS temple. He willingly sacrificed his life, his means and all his worldly possessions for his family and friends, and for the building up of Zion.
He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 60 years, son David (Claudine) of Salt Lake City, son Larry (Marsha) of Layton, and son Martin (Chris) of Tukwila, Washington. He also is survived by 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved son Daniel.
Memories of family parties, camping trips in the "funny bus," stories of your childhood, and your special sense of humor will bring a smile to our lips and sustain us until we meet again. Thank you for your unfailing example and unconditional love for all of us.
The family wishes to thank numerous friends and the IHC Hospice, especially John, Cathy, Sheila, and Vickie for their kind and loving care. A special thank you to Dr. Brent Wallace.
Gordon's body will be buried with those of his comrades in arms at Camp Williams Veteran's Memorial cemetery in Bluffdale, UT.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
