Grace Etta Harris Skaar Obituary (1919 - 2011)

Grace Etta Harris Skaar Grace E. Skaar, 92, passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living Center in Ogden, Utah on Thursday, July 21, 2011. She was born Feb. 28, 1919 in Idaho Falls, the daughter of Guy Benjamin and Etta Harris. She was raised with her brothers and sisters in the New Sweden area. On Jan 21, 1945, she married George W. Skaar in the Lutheran Church at Idaho Falls. They resided in Lewisville, where they operated a diversified farming and livestock acreage, and they raised six children. During that time Mom was an excellent and loving homemaker and tirelessly contributed to her family and community including PTA, the Cancer Society, Ed-ah-how Club, Jefferson County Cowbelles, and Jefferson Hills Women's Golf Association. When her children were nearly raised she followed her first love as a secretary in the offices of Idaho Fresh Pak in Lewisville, Idaho from 1963 to 1984. She moved to Ogden, Utah in 1987 and became an active and dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. She also enjoyed the association of the 'quilt ladies' of Community Services and helped in making hundreds of quilts. . Survivors include six children, Patricia Ann (Lynn) Milliner of Morgan, Utah, Sonja Jolene (David) Clements of Florence, Montana, George Michael (Amy) Skaar of Lewisville, Idaho, Ronald Stephen Skaar of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Victoria Suzanne (Steven) Cook of The Woodlands, Texas, and Pamela Kay Hanks of Aurora, Colorado; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother, L. Steven Harris of Merritt Island, Florida, and two sisters, Edna C. Cunnington of Clinton, Utah, and Rosellen Eaton of Yakima, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents. four sisters, Madeleine Nutting of Pasco, WA, Ardella Landers of Nampa, ID, Mabel Dennis of Ogden, UT, Josephine Seavers of Sebastopol, CA., one brother, Guy John Harris of Bountiful, UT and one grandson, Rulon Paul Cabatic of Auburn, Washington. The family wishes to thank the entire staffs of Mountain Ridge Assisted Living in Ogden, Alpine Hospice in Ogden and Hospice for Utah and Drs. Reis and Holland in Ogden. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. July 31, 2011 at the Ogden Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2185 Taylor Ave., Ogden, Utah, where friends may call prior to the service from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, 4602 North Yellowstone Highway, Idaho Falls, ID 83401 on August 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DACS (Deamude Adventist Christian School) http://ogden.adventistfaith.org and click on Adventist Giving (Grace Skaar Memorial Fund or D.A.C.S.
