Grant Joy Mortensen

ROY - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Grant Joy Mortensen, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 21, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Lars and Zina Larsen Mortensen.

Grant married his sweetheart, Selena McArthur, on October 11, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 25, 1965. They just celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary together.

Grant graduated from Weber High School in 1946.
He retired from working for the LDS church after 29 years.

He served with his wife as faithful missionaries in the California San Bernadino Mission.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully as a Cub Scout Master, Young Men's Presidency, Elders Quorum President, Bishop, High Councilman, and High Priest Group Leader.

He enjoyed camping, gardening, fishing, and loved fixing things. Grant's main passion was for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Selena; children, Vicky (Dennis, deceased) Massengale, Allen (Susan) Mortensen, Lynn (Rena) Mortensen, Peggy (Kent) Clawson, Joyce (Ray, deceased) Dozier, John (Claudette) Mortensen and Barbara (Dwayne) Moore; 54 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Mortensen; 11 brothers and sisters and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Roy 16th Ward Chapel, 4524 South 2525 West. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West and prior to services from 11:40 to 12:40 p.m. at the church.
