Grete Margit Leed Johnson Obituary (1931 - 2015)

Grete Johnson Grete Margit Leed (Johnson), born December 21, 1931, in Horsens, Denmark, beloved wife and mother, passed from this life on January 7, 2015. Grete was preceded in death by her parents Jorgen and Anna Othilia (Kristensen) Leed; brothers Egon, Folmer, and Henning; and sisters Lissi and Tove. Grete is survived by her husband Hollis Ralph Johnson and their six children: Carol Watson (Geoff), Wayne L., Lyle D. (Janell), Charlotte Willian (Dave), Lise Marie (Tyner), and Richard (Carrie Ann). She has 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with another two on the way. Grete immigrated to the United States from Denmark in 1954 and married Hollis R. Johnson on June 3, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Utah, Colorado, Paris (France), Connecticut, and then Indiana where they raised their six children. A convert to the LDS Church, Grete was very active, serving in the Young Women and Relief Society organizations. She provided countless meals through the years for friends and missionaries. She was also active in local politics, working at polling stations for many years and later serving as a precinct committee chairperson. After Hollis retired, they divided time at home with family, and abroad as missionaries for the LDS Church: Denmark (1995-95); Accra, Ghana (1998-2000); and Beijing, China (2002-03). From 2003-2006 she served as Assistant to the Matron of the Louisville, Kentucky Temple. She and Hollis made trips back to Denmark nearly yearly to visit family and friends. She was loved by all, touched countless lives, and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, Utah. There will be viewings on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be held at the Brigham City Cemetery.
