H. Joseph Lythgoe Obituary (1952 - 2024)

Howard Joseph (Joe) Lythgoe left this life on February 12, 2024 when his heart beat one last time, then stopped. He was born April 13, 1952 to Howard W. Lythgoe and Verla J. Anderson Lythgoe. Joe grew up in Ogden where he graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1970. He served a mission in Northern California, from April 1971 to April 1973, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Julie Anne Miner September 14, 1973 in the Logan Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Joe served in many callings, including as a full-time senior missionary, with his wife, from June 2018 to March 2020. His last calling was in the Mt. Eyrie branch where he enjoyed serving until his death. Joe spent most of his working years at UTA. After 39 years he retired to spend his life with his great loves; his faith, family, friends, and the great outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, or a drive through the canyons during the fall. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Julie; their children Jacob Lythgoe, Rachel (Steve) Carr, Heather Schatz, and James Lythgoe; grandchildren Michael Schatz, Corbin Lythgoe, Lisa (Steven) Gilbert, Jessica (Braiden) Barlow, D.J. Carr, and Christian Bingham; great granddaughters Natalie Barlow and Sawyer Barlow; sister Verla Diane Bills; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were really family of the heart. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a few nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be a viewing Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 1 pm, after a short viewing from 12 to 12:40 pm, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mt Lewis building located at 1150 N Monroe Blvd. Joe will be laid to rest in the Warren-West Warren Cemetery 570 N 6700 W, Warren, UT 84404.
