Harold Young

–

Ogden, Utah

Harold Dewey Young, Jr., 77, a gentle and fun-loving man, returned to his Savior on December 15, 2023. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 20, 1946, to Harold Sr. and Doris Young. At age 12, he became the man of the house and was a caring son to his mother and helpful brother to his siblings. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montana and went on to earn an accounting degree from BYU. While there he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Patterson, and knew right away she was the one. They were married in the Logan Temple on January 2, 1969.
Harold and Ann created a beautiful life together raising five children: Tyson (Tracy Stephens), Hayley (Ryan Willoughby), Ryan (Crystal Schow), Jeremy (Tina Allred), and Logan (Shantel Naylor). Harold's sweetheart and family were everything to him. He and Ann loved spending time together, enjoyed taking trips, and exploring new places. Their family grew to include 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, marvelous father, and entertaining grandfather.
Harold had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He showed his love for the Savior by example and served faithfully in many callings. He was a man without guile and dedicated to serving others. Together with Ann, he found great joy studying the scriptures, attending the temple, and doing family history.
Harold enjoyed life to the fullest and was a man of many talents, interests, and hobbies. Two of his greatest loves in life were the mountains and music. One of the family's greatest joys was taking year-round trips to the cabin. He treasured the peace he found in nature. He had a love of music from an early age and sang in many choirs, singing groups, and especially enjoyed singing with his daughter from the time she was little. He taught himself to play many instruments including the guitar, clarinet, saxophone, cello, piano, euphonium, and harmonica. He especially loved the hymns and often shared his testimony through music.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Ann, two sisters, Phyllis Burke and Judy (Gary) Hawkins, brother Mark Young, Aunt Bobbie Humbarger, and all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Edith Young and his father, Harold Dewey Young, Sr.
He will long be remembered for his sense of humor and easy-going personality. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 2-3 pm at North Fork Ward, 4279 N. 3300 E., Liberty, Utah.
