This farmer extraordinaire's life ended after a three year struggle with his health. He was born to Ervin and Ada Woodyatt Higley in Ogden, Utah and lived his entire 71 years on Higley Road in Farr West, Utah. He served two years for the LDS church in the North East British Mission, upon his return he continued his father's farming legacy of Higley Farms. In 1964 he married Joan Griffin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and raised 6 children on the farm in Farr West. He earned his associates degree from Weber State College in Diesel Technology in 1983 and furthered his education with a degree in Dairy Sciences from Utah State University. When farming was good, he operated a 2, 500 acre farm and dairy operation in Weber County where many young men spent their teenage years working for Harv on the farm. "Hoagies (Corner) Breaks" - coupled with Harv's unique sense of humor - were a daily occurrence after a long, hard day spent in the fields changing water and caring for crops. Harv was a very spiritual person his entire life. He was dedicated to the LDS church and served as Bishop for the Farr West Second Ward as well as many other church callings throughout the years. He would often round up his crew to work on the church farm and was quick to give service to others. In his later years he worked for Farr West City and for the LDS church as a gardener and mechanic. He retired in 2007 and started his own business, Harv's Landscaping, and for several years he ran a small vegetable stand in the community. Harv loved to do videos for social events and for 6 years provided the photography and video for the Ol' Hide Ride.
Harv is survived by his wife, Joan, and 5 of their children: Lesa and Jeff Wiser, Todd and Mary Jane Higley, Amy and Dale Sorenson, Heather and Martin Chamberlain, and Mindy and Ryan Miller. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jenny (Ernie) Lynch. Together they have 19 grandchildren.
