TAYLOR - Hazel Hadley Peterson, age 97, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 21, 2004 of causes incident to age.

She was born August 30, 1906 in West Weber, Utah, a daughter of Hyrum and Sarah Ellen Gibson Hadley.

She attended school in Taylor and later graduating from Ogden High School. She received a degree in teaching at Weber College and Utah State University. She loved teaching little children, both in church and in school, and taught elementary school in the Weber School District for nearly 30 years.

Hazel married Elias Spencer Peterson on June 3, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1977.

She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, especially teaching. She served a mission to the Eastern States mission.

In her younger years she raised a family and helped her husband Spencer on their farm. Times were very hard through the depression, but they worked hard and were able to make a living. In the early 1950s she supported her husband as he went on a church mission. It was difficult for her, but she always said it was no sacrifice.

Hazel was devoted to her family and after Spencer's death she spent much time with her grandchildren, researching geneology, temple work and making quilts. All of her family members and many friends and neighbors have been the recipients of her beautiful quilts. She especially delighted in making doll quilts for little girls.

Surviving are one son and two daughters; Rollo H. (Kay) Peterson, Anne Christensen and Ella (Terry) Kelley, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Edna Peterson and Oertel Hansen.
