Hazel Dyer Cooper Reed Obituary (1912 - 2008)

Hazel Dyer Cooper Reed OGDEN - Hazel Dyer Cooper Reed, 95, of Ogden, died on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Crestwood Care Center. Born Sept. 18, 1912, to Jacob Dyer and Nellie Westover, in Manassa, CO. She was the oldest of three children. At the age of five she was orphaned due to the flu epidemic of 1918. The children were raised by their grandmother. Hazel married Joseph Zabala, June 28, 1931. They were later divorced. She then married Lewis Redford Cooper on May 14, 1936. Their vows were later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He died Jan. 27, 1991. She then married Kenneth Stearns Reed on April 29, 1995. She retired from Hill Air Force Base in June 1972 after 29 years of service. Hazel worked on her education all of her life. She helped organize the Articullettes Toastmistress Club, serving as the clubs first president. She served as secretary of the Hill Administrative Club. She was active in the LDS Church and held various positions. She was involved in the North Ogden Civic League for many years. Her interests were dancing, until her late 80's, crocheting dolls, knitting afghans, and making punch rugs. Surviving are her husband Kenneth Reed; three daughters Delores Campbell, Coeur D'Alene, ID, Gaylene (Neal) Hansen, N. Ogden, UT, Diana (Ivan) Anderson, Clearfield, UT; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three step-children, Sherry, Craig and Daren Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Cooper; a son Terry; her brother and sister; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Myers Chapel, 845 Washington Blvd. in Ogden with Bishop Curtis Petersen of the 16th Ward officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. The family would like to thank Crestwood Care Center for the kind and loving care she received during her stay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
