HAZEL A. ROSE

PERRYa" Hazel Atkinson Nelson Rose, our loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away of natural causes at Sunshine Nursing Home at age 82 in Logan on Feb 14, 2002 joining her husbands, family and friends.
She was born November 25, 1919 to Delbert and Selma C. Atkinson, the third of five children. She was born and raised in Clarkston, Utah and she graduated as Valedictorian of Clarkston School and from North Cache High School and LDS Seminary.
Hazel met Martella T. Nelson while staying with her Aunt Rose and working at Perry Cannery. They were married in October of 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple. They supported each other in church callings and in raising their own family as well as three foster children. Mart died in October of 1974. In 1979 she married Arch Rose. He was a kind and gentle man. He and his family brought wonderful blessings to the Nelson family. He passed away in 1985.
She had a very strong spiritual commitment and was a faithful, active life long member of the LDS church. She held many leadership positions. She also was a community leader and a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers. Her work ethics were developed as a child and she worked at Maddox for over 30 years.
Hazel has entertained audiences with her original readings and skits throughout her life and brought laughter and joy into many lives. She always had a quick wit and sense of humor.
She will always be remembered for her gracious and thoughtful manners and sharing her many talents of cooking and sewing with others.
Surviving her are her three daughters; Mrs. Marvin (Gloria) Bennett, Logan, UT, Mrs. Thomas (Carol) Hurst, Tulsa Oklahoma and Ronda Nelson, Salt Lake City, UT; sisters, Violet H. Hardy, and Lola Campbell. Also surviving her are her step-children, Jerry and Janet Rose, St. George and Chesley and Joan Pierson , Calgary, Canada. She has six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Joseph Atkinson, Grant Atkinson and a grandson Brad Hurst.
Our heart felt gratitude is extended to the doctors and special caregivers at Sunshine Terrace Nursing Home and Hospice for their tender loving care and respect for the living. Also a special thank you to neighbors and friends in Perry who made her life so meaningful and to her extended family who was always there to give support and love.
