Helen N Wood

Helen Newman Wood, 83, passed away on November 6th, 2012 in Ogden from complications of pulmonary hypertension.

She was born in Ogden, Utah on September 2nd, 1929 to Lawrence Heber and Ferol Louisa (Stephens) Newman. She attended Ogden High School graduating in 1948.
She married Billy J Wood on March 19th, 1949 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was a wonderful mother to five children while being a strength and support to her husband. Early in their marriage, she worked as a cosmetologist. The family moved from Ogden to Los Angeles in 1967 where Bill began working for ZERO Corp. They later moved to Palmer, Massachusetts and then back to Los Angeles. In 1990, they retired to Huntsville UT and later moved to Ogden. In 2011, four years after Bill's passing from Parkinsons, she moved to Kaysville.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Helen served faithfully in many callings and is well remembered for her baby quilts, meals, gifts, visits and loving service.

Her greatest passion was always her family. She loved to attend any event where her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were participants. She was our biggest fan. She loved to plan family occasions including pool parties, boating trips to Pine View, Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge, four-wheeling at Coral Pink, and vacations to Palm Springs, Ventura Beach and Oahu. She was an avid golfer and won several club championships as well as scoring a hole in one. She was always a big sports fan and could talk sports with the best. In her later years, she enjoyed seeing new great grandchildren born and having all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren visit her. She held a special place in her heart for many of the children in her neighborhood.

She is survived by her sisters: Marjorie Louise Rogers of Torrance CA, Audrey Jane Conroy of Ogden, and Diane Burns of Pleasant View; her five children: Lynn (Dana) Wood of Ogden, Karen (Bob) Campbell of Santa Clarita CA, Larry (Beth) Wood of Castaic CA, Cathy (Jolene) Wood of Brigham City, and Richard (Vicky) Wood of Kaysville; 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Billy Jay Wood, her husband of 58 years; her daughter-in-law Patricia Lemmon Wood; her grandson Joshua Mordue; her brothers, John Wayne and Donald and her sister, Linda.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11 am at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call on Sunday, November 11th from 6-8 pm and prior to the services on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 am. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
