Herbert Marshall Smith
LAYTON - Herbert Marshall Smith, 57, was called home to eternity with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 26, 2005 in Savannah, Georgia. He passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes.
Herb had relocated to Georgia to work for the airplane manufacturer, Gulfstream. He was anxiously waiting for his family to join him there. Herb retired from HAFB in September of 2003, after 38 years as an avionics technician and troubleshooter. He had worked in several states on various aircraft, including the F1-11, the F15 Eagle, the F-16, the A4 and the C130. He loved the field of avionics and was an expert troubleshooter.
Herb was born August 20, 1947 in Auburn, California to Alvin and Donna Smith.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Herb was a disabled veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict.
He was an avid outdoorsman and very little brought him more joy than sitting on a riverbank with his family, a fishing pole in one hand and a Dr. Pepper in the other.
Herb married Brenda Smith, the love of his life, on March 23, 1972. He is survived by his wife of over 33 years, Brenda, and four children and seven grandchildren. His daughters, Shannon Smith of Riverdale, Stephanie Smith of Layton, Amber Smith of Layton and one son, Brandon Smith of Layton. Six grandsons, Braxton Smith of Brigham City, Andre Quintana of Layton, Skyler Smith of Layton, Andrew Smith of Riverdale, Jesse Smith of South Ogden and Kaeden Smith of Layton. One granddaughter, his "Little Princess" Taelyn Smith of Layton.
He is also survived by three brothers, James Smith of Marysville, CA, Terry Smith of Idaho Falls, ID and Alan Smith of Oroville, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Herb was a man of integrity that everyone who ever knew him were proud to be called his friend. He will be greatly missed as we hold him in our hearts until we meet again in Heaven.
Cremation will follow services. Herb's last request was that his ashes be taken to what he believed was the most beautiful place on earth, Mount Rainier, Washington.
