Hilda Almina Goucher

Ogden, UT

OGDEN - Hilda Almina Watkins Goucher, 92, of Ogden, Utah, left us to be again with her eternal companion, Harold, on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 of causes incident to age. She was the first of nine children born to Charles Alphonzo and Hilda Florence Larson Watkins in Brigham City, Utah, Feb 25, 1909. The family moved to Ogden, Utah in 1918 and except for living in California for 18 years and back in Brigham City for 17 years, has resided in Ogden.

Hilda married the love of her life, Harold Lee Goucher in Farmington, Utah, March 12, 1929. The marriage was celestialized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1932. Harold preceded her in death July 1, 1990.

Always active in church, social and civic affairs, she taught in all auxiliaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was twice the president of MIA, three times President of ward Relief Societies and was Santa Monica, California Stake Relief Society President from 1956 to 1959. She and Harold served together in three temples, and served a mission together in Massachusetts from 1959 to 1962. At the time of her death, she was a visiting teacher and had been for 60 years.

She was affiliated with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, being Captain over camps and in the early 1950's was VC under Amanda Waterstradt over Weber County. She was a co-founder of Cul De Vel Literary Club and with her husband was a co-founder of Les Danseurs, a semi-formal dancing club. She was a member of Yeshara, a missionary group, while living in Brigham City. She had been Chairman of Red Cross Campaigns, a devotee of the U.S. Constitution, and the Founding Fathers. Hilda revered the American flag and always voted.

Loved by everyone who knew her, young and old alike, she was numbered among the "Pure in Heart". Her goal in life was to serve the Lord and to help anyone and everyone she came in contact with. Hilda's brilliant mind enabled her to write and compile many books and make many, many copies to circulate to her family and friends. Her first book, "Delicious To Me" has been reproduced several times and was an inspiration to all who read it. At the time of her death, she was still copying pages on her copy machine for another book.

Surviving are three living children: Zyrel (William) Bonnar, Indian Wells, California; Luanne (Brad) Skinner, Eden, Utah; Brent (Lynda) Goucher, North Ogden, Utah. A daughter, Joan Kay, died in infancy. Also surviving are one sister, Emma Dorothy Wilson, and many loved nieces and nephews. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and one deceased great grandson, Wesley.

We wish to extend our great appreciation to the many friends at Crestwood Care Center and Hospice Care. They made her last days more bearable.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to ward fast offering funds to assist the needy, or the American Red Cross to assist the families of the recent terrorist attack.
