Hollace Ann Varley Obituary (1915 - 2003)

Hollace Ann Varley (Holly) OGDEN - Hollace Ann Varley, 87, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 27, 2003. She was born in Eden, Utah on September 16, 1915 to James LeRoy and Thirza McBride Fackrell. She married Frank W. Varley, Sr. on March 30, 1934. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1979. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving are her son, Frank (Sandy) Varley of California; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Virginia Fackrell, SLC, UT; LoRay Jones, California; and Lynn Fackrell, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Varley Sr; son, Richard LeRoy Varley; and several brothers and sisters. Her physical being was small and frail, but her spirit, her absolute presence was a tower of strength. She had a special gift of wittiness. She loved a good debate and she never lost, no matter how long you tried to win, Gramma Hollace always came out on top. She would look at you with those eyes and you could hear the wheels turning in her head. You would hold your breath with great anticipation, she would finally speak, the laughter was always the end result. She always said better to laugh than to cry. She had a special gift with gardening. She could grow the most beautiful flowers from a mere twig. Her favorite was the peace rose. When I planted a kiss on her forehead her skin was as soft as a rose petal and when she held your hand your soul was overcome with Peace. "Our Gramma is the Peace Rose." Her wisdom will forever ring in our heads. A couple of weeks ago Gramma told me that some people say "Blood is thicker than water." She held my hand and said, "I have news for them, you are my granddaughter's because love is thicker than all". Her words and her love will forever be in our hearts. By: Diana Carver Bosley.
