Howard Lynn Holladay

ROY -- Howard Lynn Holladay, 74, passed away September 7, 2008 in his home in Roy after a short but heroic battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born May 31, 1934 to Howard and Maude Holladay. He was raised and educated in Santaquin, Utah. He graduated from Payson High School in 1952. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

He married Charlotte Fitzpatrick in 1960. They had three children and were later divorced. Howard and Charlotte remained best friends, talking to each other every day until his death. Charlotte's second husband, Jack Bell, readily accepted Howard as his "husband-in-law." The love and friendship shared by the three of them ensured that Howard would remain a strong influence in the lives of his children. This was a huge gift to all of usa"thank you for being so amazing.

Howard worked hard all his life and took pride in saving money for his children. He rarely spent money on himself, but gave freely and lovingly to those he loved. He worked for Firestone Tire for 10 years and traveled throughout the country during his career with them. In 1965, he began working for HAFB in Roy and retired after 28 years of service. While he was with HAFB he spent several years in South Dakota and Wyoming on missile duty. As a retiree, Howard volunteered at A&M Outdoor Home Center in Riverdale. This was a great highlight of his life. He loved getting up before the sun, heading to A&M, making coffee, getting the store ready for his A&M family and working with the guys. Chris, Kelly, Wes and Don, he loved you all so much. Thank you for filling his heart and days with so much joy.

Howard was a giving and loving father, dedicated friend, caring neighbor and an extremely hard worker. He loved working in his yard, tinkering with tools, building model ships, telling funny stories, playing practical jokes, saving money and spending time with his family, friends and neighbors. He could fix anything and each day presented a new project for him to tackle. He cherished every moment he had drinking a Pepsi and smoking a Basic cigarette in his garage or on his patio with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Fred H. Holladay of Santaquin, and one son, Jeffery Lynn Holladay of Pennsylvania.

Howard is survived by two of his children, Chris Holladay, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Jeni (Ed) Hammond, Holladay, UT; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Holladay, Lansdale, PA; four grandchildren, Mitchell and Grayson Holladay, Lansdale, PA; and Ryley and Ayden Hammond, Holladay; UT. He is also survived by his two nieces, Tracey (Danny) Marz, Tooele, UT; and Kelly (Dale) Sorenson, Santaquin, UT; and many friends.

He will be missed by all who were charmed by his wit and sense of humor, all who knew the depth of his love, and all who witnessed his unending desire to give his time, tools and assistance to those in need.
