Intha "Toni" Whaley Obituary (1922 - 2015)

Intha Ophelia "Toni" Hamberlin Ethridge Whaley October 11, 1922 - March 9, 2015 Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away Monday surrounded by her family. Intha was born in Kelsey, TX, the youngest of 11 children of Victor Carl Hamberlin and Effie Lavinia Irwin. She was the last survivor of her family. At her sister Ziella's funeral she was dubbed "the last of the Mohicans." Her goal in recent years was to live the longest of all her siblings. Sadly, she missed that honor by 4 months. Intha was a WWII veteran and had the distinction of being the first female MP to carry a 45. Intha "Toni" was known to all for her wit, laughter and friendliness. She is such an amazing woman. She had a song for every situation, a wise crack, and a smile. She loved three activities more than anything. She loved to bowl and will be greatly missed at Ben Lomond Lanes where she bowled on two leagues twice a week for many years. She loved doing yard work and growing her black-eyed peas using several different gardens. No one can cook black-eyed peas and cornbread the way she could. But most of all she loved attending and serving as an ordinance worker in the temple. She and her deceased husband, Bud, served as temple missionaries in the London, England Temple 1988-90. Upon returning they served for many years in the Ogden Temple. After his death she spent her remaining years attending the temple once or twice a week until January of this year. Intha is survived by her one daughter and four sons who she always lovingly referred to (no matter how old) as her "babies." They are Luana (Bill) West, Victor (Judy) Ethridge, Don (Jean) Ethridge, Arlis (Sherry) Ethridge, Mike (JoAnn) Ethridge and numerous grand and great grandchildren and other relatives. Services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Riverdale 1st Ward, 1056 W. 4400 S., Riverdale.
