Ira Wood

–

Syracuse, Utah

Ira Wellington Wood (92) passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ira lived a life filled with love, kindness, and warmth for all who knew him.

He was born January 21, 1934, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Merrill Wellington Wood and Mary Agnes Markham.

Ira graduated from Spanish Fork High School and continued his education at Central Utah Vocational School (now Utah Valley University).

He was inducted into the Army in 1954, serving at Fort Ord, California, and later in Augsburg, Germany.

Ira married JoLene Melba Wendel on August 23, 1963, in the Logan, Utah Temple.

He worked as a machinist at Hill Air Force Base, crafting precision parts for Air Force
aircraft. He received an award for suggesting improvements that increased part integrity. Between his civilian Air Force work and Army service, he proudly served our country for over 30 years.

He enjoyed the beauty of God’s creations and loved to spend time outdoors hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and metal detecting. He loved visiting the state and national parks with his family, but most important to him was spending quality time with those he loved.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Mary; his wife, JoLene; and his sister Marilyn Shelton Hurst.

He is survived by his children: Darin Ira Wood, Sandy, Shantel Wood (Dale) Bronson, Syracuse; four grandchildren; and his sister, Carol Ann Merrell.

We are so grateful for the way he showed us how beautiful a life of hard work, dedication to family, service, love, compassion, friendship, and respect toward others can be.

When we asked him if he had any final advice for his grandchildren, he said, “Always do your best and love everyone.” He truly loved and respected others and will be missed by so many. We love you, till we meet again.

We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the family, friends, and healthcare workers who have given him such love, support, and exceptional care.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Willard City Cemetery; 470 N. Main St. Willard, UT. A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 9:30-10:15 am at Myers Mortuary; 205 S. 100 E. Brigham City, UT. Interment will be at Willard City Cemetery.
