Gladys Irene Winters Stanley Obituary (1928 - 2015)

Gladys Irene Winters Stanley April 27, 1928 - December 2, 2015 "Together Again" Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Gladys Irene Winters Stanley, 87, returned to her Father in Heaven on December 2, 2015, following a lingering battle with Alzheimer's disease. Irene was born April 27, 1928 in Levan, Utah to Anthony Rudolph & Gladys Iona Hansen Winters. She was one of four children. Her father died when she was young and her mother raised the children by herself in Fountain Green, Utah. Irene married her sweetheart Alden Vernon Stanley on June 4, 1945, in the Manti Temple. She traveled around the country with him while he was in the service except while he was overseas. Irene was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various positions in the Primary and Relief Society. She found joy in serving her family, and was a devoted care giver to her husband and son. She enjoyed the time she spent working in the Ogden Temple and attending the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a dedicated loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, crafts, camping, traveling, spending winters in Arizona, and having her family over for Christmas Eve Dinner. After her children were raised, she spent many years working as a clerk in Allen's Hobby Craft. She is survived by two sons, Gary (Afton) Stanley, Norman (Cindy) Stanley, daughter-in-law Vicki Doman, 9 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alden, son Val, brother Oris Winters, sister-in-law Lavon Winters, and brother-in-law Frank Jacobsen. The family would like to thank the many CNAs, nurses, doctors, and staff at Peach Tree Place, Stonehenge and Comfort Worx Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness they have shown in her behalf. A special thanks to her granddaughter Jill who spent almost two years taking care of her, her granddaughter Sue who shopped and made sure her needs were met, and her sister Voniel who spent countless hours visiting her. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West Roy, Utah. Viewings will be Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Monday 10:00-1045 a.m. at Myers Mortuary. Interment will be in the Roy City Cemetery.
