James Durrant Bridges
Nov 2, 1935 - January 28, 2017

James Durrant Bridges, our gentle giant, returned to his heavenly home on January 28, 2017 surrounded by his devoted and loving family. He was born on November 2, 1935 in Morgan Utah to LeGrand and Phoebe Ellen Durrant Bridges. He grew up on the family ranch in East Canyon attending school in Morgan. He graduated from Morgan High School where he played football and basketball and was on the All-State football team. He also served as Senior Class Vice President. He won many awards while participating in the Morgan County Fairs and Rodeos. He attended Utah State University on a football scholarship. He was a talented, meticulous brick mason. He retired from Barnes Aerospace in 1997 where he worked tirelessly as an aerospace machinist.
He married his eternal sweetheart, Deanna Burnett Bridges, on June 6, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Sunset, Utah where they have resided for the past 58 years. Jim proudly served the citizens of Sunset as a city councilman for 20 years. He also served for 10 years on the Davis County Sewer Board.
Jim was a humble, kind and compassionate servant of our Heavenly Father. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He rendered Christlike service by serving in many positions in the church, including his service as councilor in the bishopric, bishop of the Sunset 5th ward, high councilor and temple ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for several years.
Jim was happiest when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will always treasure time spent with him on our annual trips to Bear Lake and Yellowstone and our summer dutch oven picnics.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Deanna and their five children, Debbie (Dave) Marshall, West Point, Jan (Karl) Sewell, Clinton, Julie (Matthew) Wood, Mapleton, Lynda (Brian) Smith, Clinton, Todd (Candace) Bridges, Syracuse; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jane Cavender and Sister-in-law Carol Bridges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brother, Dean, Mike and Glen Bridges and two sisters, Betty Jo Chadwick and Gloria Wager; baby daughter Becky and his granddaughter Natalie Garritson.
