On the morning of February 13, 2024, the world said farewell to a remarkable man. James Arlin Moody, lovingly known as Bud, was born on May 13, 1927, in Birmingham, Alabama. His life was a captivating tale of dedication, resilience, and love. Bud was a man of many hats, a Civil Engineer by profession, a Bishop, Stake Missionary, Scout Master, and Elders Quorum President by faith, and a devoted patriarch at home. His life was a canvas painted with the hues of passion for his work, love for his family, his unending faith in the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and a zest for life. Bud's journey took him from Alabama, California, Nevada, and finally to South Jordan, Utah, each place adding a unique stroke to the masterpiece that was his life.
Bud was an exemplary model of diligence and perseverance. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, he began his lifelong career as a Civil Engineer, contributing his skills to Los Angeles County in California. His work was a testament to his dedication, and he was widely respected in his field. Despite the challenges of his profession, Bud found the time to pursue his hobbies. He loved to fish, camp, travel, and was an ardent fan of western movies. Weekends were an opportunity for Bud to provide for his family through painting.
Bud's love story with Joann Abplanalp began on June 4, 1949, in Pasadena, California, and it was a bond that lasted for an astounding 74 years. Their love story was a testament to their unwavering commitment and love for each other. Together, they raised four beautiful daughters, Carolyn Wright, Susie Kerr, Denise (Deno) Perucci, and Sandra Matlock. Bud's family was his world, and he was a doting grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to 28 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved son-in-law, Deno (Denise) Perucci. James was preceded in death by his parents, William Moody, Cordelia Pounds, and his brothers, William Frank Jr., and William Harold.
Bud's life was a symphony of love, dedication, and resilience. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us. Let's celebrate Bud's life by sharing stories, memories, and pictures on his Remember Page https://my.gather.app/remember/james-moody-feb-2024. Your contributions will serve as a tribute to the incredible life he led and the profound impact he had on all of us. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Missionary Fund https://philanthropies.churchofjesuschrist.org/missionary/. The family will be honoring his life in a private celebration.
