James William Pingree

ROY - James William Pingree, 78, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at his home from cancer. His family members were privileged to be with him.

He was born February 24, 1930 in Ogden, Utah to Verdi Lee and Beatrice Eliza Boyle Pingree.

James married Joann McDowell on June 1, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple.

James attended Riverdale Elementary, Weber High School, and University of Utah, graduating with a Master's Degree in Music.

He was a member of the Roy 4th Ward, where he was Bishop, High Councilman, High Priest Group Leader, Elders' Quorum President, Choir Director, Organist, Chorister, Sunday School Teacher, and Home Teacher.

James was a piano teacher, school teacher and volunteer fireman. James loved and appreciated meeting his many piano students where ever he went.

His hobby was serving others. He shared cupcakes, breads and his garden squash. He shoveled, raked, and mowed. He loved the outdoors. He loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Joann of Roy; children: Sandra (Guy) Cooke of Bend OR; Marsha (Jeff) Brinkerhoff of St. George, UT; Maureen (Marion) Panganiban of Ivins, UT; Nancy (Lynn) Pence of Thatcher, UT; Elaine (Paul) Hansen of Roy, UT; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Maxine Carling, brother, Carl (Donna) Pingree, sister-in-law, LaVern Pingree, and brothers-in-law, Dee Sparrow, and Howard Hoffman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verdi and Beatrice Pingree, and siblings, Dortha, Lucille, Joyce, and Wallace.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roy 4th Ward, 5300 South 2100 West, Roy. Friends and family may gather on Friday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
