Jay H. Cragun

Jay H. Cragun, 88, passed away peacefully at home after a short illness.

He was born June 22, 1916 to Levi Ephriam and Maud Mathews in Pleasant View, Utah. Jay was the fourth of twelve children.

He graduated from Weber High School with honors in 1934. He then attended Utah State University and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1939.

After graduating from college, Jay married LaRue Bunn in the Logan L.D.S. Temple in 1940. They were married for 56 wonderful years until May 1997 when the Lord returned her home. He then married his sweetheart, Aileen Nabano on July 13, 1999.

Jay had many talents and volunteered his time and himself to many organizations. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the D.A.V. He worked for Hill Air Force Base as a chemical engineer where he retired in 1974. He was a substitute teacher for the Weber County School District.

He served in various positions of the L.D.S. Church, including the Ogden L.D.S. Temple. He was recently honored for 75 years of scouting.

Jay was a member of the Western Music Association and a volunteer for the North View Senior Center. Jay's humor, wittiness and service to his community will be greatly missed.

Jay is survived by his wife Aileen; one daughter, Jolene Austin (Jenny), Texas; four grandchildren, John Stufflebeam (Corissa), Roy; Ryan Medina (Stacy), Roy; Nicole O'Shea (Chris), Roy and Shane Stufflebeam, Ogden. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, six stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 17 step-great grandchildren and three sisters, Ferol (Dee Ward) Hock, Washington; Gwenda (Don) Meyer, Ogden; Mildred (K.J.) Vanderwerff, Ogden.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Cecil, Bud, Ken, Levi and Max and his sisters Arlene, Marva and Zella.
