Jay Jacobson Jex recording.
Jay Jacobson Jex, 29, of Ogden, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2016. Jay was born on February 2, 1987 in Orem, Utah, the second of four children to Jerry and Vicky Jex.
During his childhood, Jay lived in Utah, California, Oregon, and Washington State. Jay had a love for animals and enjoyed his life on the family farm; he loved his dog Spot, raised pigs, and cared for cows, chickens, and goats. He enjoyed being a Boy Scout; for his Eagle Scout project, he organized a media donation drive for the public library.
Jay attended Tumwater High School in Tumwater, Washington. In high school, he was active in choir, and played the violin in orchestra. In 2005, Jay received his high school diploma, his Associate of Arts from South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington, and graduated from the LDS seminary.
While attending BYU Idaho, Jay met the love of his life, Natalie Balls. He was captured by her obsession with the candy Frooties. Jay and Natalie wrote each other while Jay served an LDS mission in the Colorado Denver North mission from 2006 to 2008. After his mission, Jay and Natalie started dating. Jay married Natalie Jo Balls on July 28, 2009 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Jay received his Bachelor of Arts in History from BYU Idaho in July 2009. After Natalie graduated from BYU Idaho, Jay and Natalie moved to Washington State to live for a time on the family farm with Jay's parents. While there, Jay worked in the Timberland Library System and received his Masters in Library and Information Science from Drexel University.
In 2013, while his parents were serving an LDS mission in Guam, Jay was hired as the Reference Services Coordinator at the Weber State University library. Jay and Natalie moved to Ogden, Utah, where they later bought a home. In April 2016, Jay received his Masters in Professional Communications from Weber State University, his second Masters degree.
Throughout his life, Jay was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of his passing, Jay was serving in his ward as the Young Men president.
Jay is survived by his wife, Natalie Jex of Ogden, Utah; parents Jerry and Vicky Jex of Olympia, Washington, who returned early from an LDS mission in the Philippines because of his passing; his siblings Sandy (Burke) Steinfelt of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Jeffrey (Asenath) Jex of Forth Worth, Texas, and Jeremy Jex of Heber, Utah; his grandfather Hal Jacobson; grandparents Pat Jex and Jim McKemy; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Viewings will be Monday June 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday June 7 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the LDS meetinghouse at 1050 E 21st St. in Ogden, Utah. The funeral will be Tuesday June 7 at 11:00 a.m. And the burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery in Spanish Fork, Utah.
