Jaye Edwin Poelman Obituary (1933 - 2016)

Jaye's long good-bye has finally ended. Jaye Edwin Poelman completed his mortal journey on January 23, 2016. Born June 4, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Walter Jenkinson Poelman and Eva Beatrice Swain Squires, Jaye was the middle child of seven. He was a graduate of East High School and the University of Utah majoring in Chemistry. He married his high school sweet heart, Barbara Ellen Anderson, 62 years ago. Having participated in the ROTC during his university years, he followed with his service as an officer in the U.S. Army taking his young family to Germany to fulfill his duty. He obtained his MBA between work as a rocket scientist at Thiokol and juggling church responsibilities and his family. Dad was Google before Google ever was--we could ask him anything and he had an answer for anything; he could help with any math problem even over the phone from his desk at work as we panicked to finish an assignment due that day. Central to dad's life was his family and his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and mom raised seven children-- one of whom came to their home through the church's Lamanite student program. He served as bishop of the 16th Ward while in his 30's during which time he was charged with overseeing the building of and raising funds for the new Brigham City South Stake Center. A big sacrifice for him was to leave his family and the comforts of his home to serve an 18 month mission with Mom to Thailand in the mission office, opening doors to lifelong friends from this foreign land. He was Stake Patriarch for 25 years during which time he and Mom also travelled to Salt Lake City once a week for eleven years at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and seven years at the Conference Center where they gave tours and helped usher during General Conference. Dad was a pillar of faith to his family: Wife-Barbara; Children-Kathryn Ellen Martin (John), Mark Andrew Poelman (Leisha), Lloyd Anderson Poelman, Rebecca Ann Dilg (Carl), Kent Anderson Poelman, David King Hunt (Ashlee), Jeannette Kay Boggess (Bret); Twenty-five grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Siblings-Ellen Warner (Don), Bonnie Murphy, Blair (Bernice), Robert, and Ann Thornton. Proceeded in death by parents, and brother Squires and his wife Eleanor. A gathering of friends and family will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 6-7:30 pm at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and Saturday morning, January 30, 2016 from 11:00-11:40 a.m. at the Brigham City South Stake Center, 865 S. 300 W., Brigham City, Utah with the funeral to follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
