Jeanette Ann Winn

–

Hooper, Utah

Jeanette Ann Winn, daughter of Walter D. Johnson and Evelyn L. Youngson, passed away on 10 September 2026 at the age of 90.

When she was younger, Mom spent a lot of time with her Aunt Mary and Uncle Henry in Minden, NE, where she found a love for gardening and animals.

She met and married Dale H. Winn in 1960, just two weeks after they first met. They raised 3 daughters, Jeanette, Nancy, and Sondra, in Roy, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple.

Mom was a very devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held many church positions, but her favorite was teaching primary, she loved little children.

Genealogy was very important to her; she would travel by bus to the Salt Lake City Family History Center and would diligently look up records on microfilm. Mom was responsible for temple work being performed for a lot of her ancestors. She also served for many years as a volunteer at the Ogden Family History Center, helping others.
Growing up, we always grew a huge garden and Mom canned all summer. Even after mom and dad moved to Hooper in the early 1980s, they still grew a large garden. Mom served as the canning coordinator for her stake for many years; she also volunteered at the church cannery.

Mom worked at Hill AFB for 28 years, retiring in 1990.

Mom received a letter from the President of the United States in recognition for her volunteer work which included, reading with school children, indexing for the family history center, knitting and wool spinning demonstrations at Antelope Island, serving at the Hooper Senior Center and judging handwork at Hooper Tomato Days and County fairs in Northern Utah.

Her favorite pastime was doing any type of handwork. Including crochet, knitting, tatting, and sewing. When we were young, she made clothes for all our dolls, including our Barbie dolls.

For years, Mom made and donated lap robes to elderly residents in assisted living facilities. She also made altar cloths for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, one of which was used in the Salt Lake Temple.

She raised various animals over the years but was especially fond of goats. Mom and dad raised so many that when their 55th was born, they couldn’t think of a name, so they named her 55! Milking goats was part of her daily tasks; she often gave milk to mothers whose children had special needs.

Mom had a dog until she suffered a series of strokes in December 2024 while in assisted living and could no longer care for her. Her favorite names were Annie and Sadie.

She was the kindest person anyone could meet and always set an example for her children, grandchildren and others. If you came across anyone who knew her they would say “She is the sweetest person.” Mom could strike up a conversation with anyone.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Nancy (Gary) Coronado of Hooper, UT, and Sondra (Chuck) Nelson of Evanston, WY. 2 brothers, Walter R Larsen of North Highlands, CA, and Donald E Larsen, JR of Alamogordo, NM. 6 grandchildren, and many great and great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale H. Winn; daughter, Jeanette A. Parker; parents; and sister, Arlene L. Cox.

The family would like to thank the loving caregivers at Sunridge Assisted Living of Layton and Atlas Homecare and Hospice, where she received the best possible care and was treated with much love and respect by all.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hooper 3rd ward, 5601 South 6100 West, Hooper Utah.
