Following a valiant battle with ovarian cancer, Jessie Susan Watson, 65, of West Weber, passed away June 21, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 23, 1951, in Plain City, Utah to Hugh and Erma Taylor, Jessie was raised in Plain City and attended Weber County Schools.
On February 25, 1972 she married the love of her life, John O. Watson. Together, they made West Weber their home where they raised two children, Amanda and Cole.
Jessie worked at DDO, Hill Air Force Base, and then retired from the IRS where she made many lifelong friendships that she cherished throughout her life.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, West Weber 2nd Ward. Jessie held many positions including Relief Society President, Compassionate Service Leader, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. Jessie had a strong testimony and love for her Heavenly Father. She relied on that strength and the love of family to persevere through her battle with cancer over the last three years.
She was a loving, compassionate, understanding and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter and sister.
Jessie had a lifelong love of horses and was a very accomplished competitor as she participated in barrel racing, winning many buckles and saddles. She also loved trail riding in the mountains with friends and family.
Jessie was an extremely talented and accomplished artist. She started with and quickly mastered sketch work and painting. Later in life, she excelled in china painting. Jessie won various awards for her work but her greatest joy was sharing her talents with others by gifting her pieces of art.
Jessie enjoyed many recreational and outdoor hobbies including riding ATV's, kayaking, antiquing, short road trips, camping, and especially enjoyed rock hounding, often leaving no stone unturned. She also enjoyed tubing the river in lava Hot Springs Idaho.
While taking road trips Jessie always wanted to take the scenic route and would always take time to stop at quaint local shops, and every one of them were quaint. She was game for everything and anything, and always lived life to the fullest. The biggest reason these activities brought so much joy to Jessie is that she was able to participate in them with her family.
Two annual trips she looked forward to the most were the May Moab trip with her family and going to the National Finals Rodeo every December with John.
Jessie enjoyed serving others and freely gave of her time performing temple work and working on genealogy.
Above all, Jessie loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 45 years and three children; Monica (Paul) Spackman, Plain City; Amanda (Cade) Kaneko, Tremonton; and Cole (Carrie Kerr) Watson, Willard. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister; David Taylor, Plain City; Charles (Belinda) Taylor, Marriott; Robyn Hancock, Plain City, thirteen grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and mother and father in-law.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Vincent Hansen, his staff of angels and also HCNU Hospice.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite non-profit organization. One of Jessie's favorites was "Options For Independence" in Logan, where she spent many hours volunteering.
