John Sampson

–

Ogden, Utah

John Paige Sampson, age 86, of Ogden, Utah, passed away on June 15, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.

John was born in his family home in Richfield, Utah, on October 15, 1939, to Dewey Sampson and Crystal Jorgensen Sampson. His mother gave him the middle name Paige after a favorite doll. He was born the eighth of ten children, was the last of his siblings to pass away, and lived to be the oldest among them.

John attended Snow College, where he played football for one year. He later served a two-and-a-half-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway, an experience that deepened his faith and shaped the spiritual steadiness he carried throughout his life. He continued his education at the University of Utah, where he studied banking and finance, earned an MBA, and graduated from law school in 1968.
In 1965, John married Barbara Ellen Thompson, the love of his life. Together they built a home centered on faith, learning, prayer, and devotion to family. John was a wonderful husband and father, a spiritual leader, and truly one of the sweetest men anyone could know.

John began his career in California, where he earned his CPA while working with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., a prominent international accounting firm and predecessor to KPMG. He later practiced law in Ogden, Utah, serving clients for many years as a business, tax, wills, and trusts attorney. He brought integrity, care, and sound judgment to his profession, but his greatest work was always within the walls of his own home.
John was vigilant about teaching his family the gospel of Jesus Christ. Early morning scripture study was a steady and sacred part of life in the Sampson home, and he made sure it happened consistently. Family prayer often meant kneeling together on the floor, arms interlocked, with anyone in the home lovingly included.

John led with quiet strength. He was steady, humble, faithful, and kind. His life reflected a deep love for the Savior and a deep commitment to the people entrusted to his care.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; their eight children: Allison (Drew) Hurst, Kimberly (Troy) Millett, Christopher (Julie) Sampson, Heather (Curtis) Castillow, Stephanie (Lane) Walton, Jessica (Christopher) Turpin, Jeromy (Hollie) Sampson, and Barbi (Chad) Adams; 42 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren, with five more on the way.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Forest Green Ward meetinghouse, 1401 Country Hills Drive, Ogden, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. that same day. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, Utah. The service will be streamed with the following Zoom link: https://app.zoom.us/wc/join, Meeting ID: 923 3615 3021, passcode: FGWard.

John’s family will remember him for his faith, humility, sweetness, and steady love. His influence will continue in the generations he taught, blessed, and loved so well.
