John Joseph Father Emmanuel) Spillane Obituary (1916 - 2010)

John Joseph Spillane (Father Emmanuel) Huntsville - John Joseph Spillane (Father Emmanuel), 93, passed away on May 1, 2010 at the Christus St. Joseph Villa in Salt Lake City. He was born November 16, 1916 in New York City, to Edward and Ilda Spillane. Father Emmanuel entered the Huntsville Monastery in 1950 as a priest from the Los Angeles Archdiocese. His gifts were soon recognized and he became the Superior of the Monastery in 1956. Father Emmanuel led the Community for 26 years, until his retirement in 1982. Afterwards he was assigned as Guestmaster, ministering to guests and retreatants. Father Emmanuel's beneficial influence extended beyond his monastic community, and into the lives of the Utah Diocesan clergy, and people of all faiths. He was instrumental in bringing many into a closer relationship with the Lord. His warm personality made him a joy to be with. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Holy Trinity Abbey, 1250 South 9500 East, Huntsville, Utah, under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Ogden.
