Jon Richard Shaw
1951 - 2022

Jon Richard Shaw peacefully passed away at his home, surrounded by family, on July 23, 2022 from complications from a broken hip. He had a life well lived and will be missed by many.

Jon was born in Ogden, Utah, June 5, 1951 to Lloyd and Karma Shaw. Growing up in the shadow of Ben Lomond Peak, as the fourth of five children, Jon shared treasured experiences with many cousins, grandparents and lifelong friends who lived on his North Ogden block. The gaggle of cousins knew a world of beauty and wonder, from exploring the foothills to hunting in the pasture with everything from rocks to slingshots and BB guns. As a young boy, he loved to ride horses and could sleep lazily on the back of his old horse, Big Red.

Jon attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School before serving an LDS mission to Mesa, Arizona. He retired from the Defense Depot Ogden after 25 years in facility services. Jon married, and later divorced, Jolene Ferrin with whom he had two sons, Brandon and Chad Shaw. Jon delighted in the relationships he had with his sons and his granddaughter, Kendra Shaw.

Jon had the unique ability to help others slow down and notice the beauty around them. His sincerity was punctuated by his genuine kindness and curiosity. He was eager to help and check in on everyone around him. Jon loved eating at the Village Inn restaurant, where he made many friends - his favorite server was Darcy and her sons, who took fabulous care of him. Throughout his life, he loved hunting and fishing, camping in the mountains, and feeding the hummingbirds at Beaver Creek. Jon was a ghost chaser, a picture taker, and a storyteller. Whether fishing on Memorial Day, cheering on the Cherry Days Parade on July 4th, or taking in the horse and hitch parade and Ogden Pioneer Day rodeo, he loved all holidays and was always thrilled to see his family and friends. Jon's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving - and the amazing food - but he was best known for his costumes on Halloween.

Jon was a beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by Brandon, Chad, and Kendra; his siblings, Chris Griffin, Greg Shaw and Susan (Norm) George; and many nieces, nephews, and loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lindee; grandparents, Joseph A. and Rhada Shaw, and Lester H. and Lena Campbell.

The family would like to thank the Enhabit Hospice employees for the compassionate care they gave Jon.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11 am at Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.

We hope that Jon's wish for a giant hot tub in Heaven came true. In lieu of flowers, please take someone you love fishing or feed the hummingbirds in honor of Jon.
