Jonathan C. Welch Obituary (1929 - 2010)

Jonathan C. Welch Roy - Jonathan C. Welch, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 20, 2010 in Roy, UT. He was born January 27, 1929 in Harper Ward, Utah to Samuel and Minnie Jane Hughes Welch. Jonathan (known as Jon or Johnny by his family and friends) attended USAC (USU) where he received his BS degree. He served in the US Air Force from 1954-1960 as a 2nd Lieutenant serving in the US and Europe. Jonathan married Carma O'Driscoll Nov. 21, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple; she passed away on Sept. 19, 1966. He married LuAnne Davis Nov. 7, 1969; they later divorced. Jonathan was a member of the LDS Church, Oakhills Ward in Layton, UT. He served a mission to Southern California. He has served in many callings in the church, including Ward Missionary, Ward Mission Leader, Sunday School teacher, Scoutmaster, Bishopric counselor, and temple worker. Johnny had a tender heart, loved to serve other and was the first one to lend a hand. He is survived by his children Vickie Lynne Welch Kerr (Tom), J. Craig Welch (Debbie), Jim Welch, Michael Welch (Roz), Elizabeth Welch, Benjamin Welch (Melissa), Heather Welch Smith (Michael); 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 3 brothers and 1 sister, Samuel Hughes Welch, James Newell Welch, Minnie Jane Welch Lewis and Garth Larry Welch. He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Nash Welch and sister Naola Welch Dean. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Oakhills Ward Chapel, 1410 East Gentile, Layton. Friends may call on Sunday, January 24th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd and Monday prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
