Josephine Ann Marble
October 19, 1938 - October 15, 2025
Hooper - JoAnn Marble, 86, passed away at Legacy House of Park Lane, after struggling with the effects of a brain tumor.
JoAnn was born in Paducah, Kentucky, to Andrew Fletcher Durden, and Mae Irene Hill Durden. Her father was a carpenter, and his work took the family to many places in the southern states. Before she was 12 years old, she had lived in Ojus, Coral Gables, Key West, Daytona Beach, St. Augustine, and Fort Walton, Florida, Smyrna and Forrest Park, Georgia, Corpus Christi, Texas, Shreveport, Louisiana, and someplace in Mississippi. She returned to Forrest Park for much of Junior High School, and lived in Key West again to finish 8th grade. For 9th and 10th grades, she went to Craddock High in Virginia, and finished high school in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was an excellent student, and was a member of the Beta Club, which promoted academic excellence, leadership, character, and service. She attended the University of Georgia.
JoAnn married Stephen Grant Marble on August 4, 1959. They lived in Paris Island and Beaufort, South Carolina, Forrest Park, Georgia, Lemoore, National City, Imperial Breach, and Coronado, California, and in Roy and Hooper, Utah.
JoAnn worked in Coronado at the local drugstore, Cora Mart, cutting fabric and selling notions. She later worked at the Hotel Del Coronado as a switchboard operator, and regularly crossed paths with famous people. She also worked on the switchboard at Hill Air Force Base when she moved to Utah, and was told they would send a helicopter for her in case of disaster... she was considered that essential. Later she became an electroplating technician at Hill, then she worked in the Chem Lab as a physical science tech. Christopher got to look through her microscope once, and told all his friends that his grandma was a scientist. JoAnn dearly loved the friends she made at work, as well as their spouses. She continued to go to breakfast with them regularly for years.
JoAnn loved to learn. She was an avid reader. Over the years, she took classes with friends in soldering, cake decorating, sewing, cooking, and gardening. She loved her plants, and won awards for her yard in Coronado. She loved cruising with Brian and Debbie Judd. She loved chocolate. She so dearly loved her neighbors who took such good care of her as she got on in years. Her greatest joy in life, though, was her family.
JoAnn grew up attending Methodist Churches, and converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when she was 37 years old, along with her three children. Her husband, Stephen, baptized the family. She worked in the Library, spent time on genealogy, and helped in Relief Society, but her favorite things were teaching primary, visiting teaching, and helping out in the kitchen at funerals.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, and her son, Russell (Stacy).
She is survived by her daughters, Brenna (John) West, and Ann (Paul) Allred, by her brother Jimmy (Trisha) Durden, by nine grandchildren, and by fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the Shannondoah Ward Chapel, 5375 S 5900 W, Hooper, Utah, on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Family will greet friends on Friday, October 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Saturday, October 25, from 9:30 to 10:45 at the same location.
