Jo Mottes
August 19, 1928 ~ April 11, 2017
On April 11, 2017, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend departed this world in the comfort of her home. Jo was born on August 19, 1928 to Benjamin Salazar and Genoveva Lobato in Mancos, Colorado. Her mother passed away when she was two years of age, she was raised by her father, grandmother, and aunts and uncles, growing up with her younger brother Joe and many cousins. She married Ronald Mottes on September 28, 1949 in Las Vegas Nevada. They were married for 37 years before he passed away on October 16, 1986. Jo was a well-known waitress at Ronnies's Coffee Shop and the Broadway CafAC. in Salt Lake City. Mom took time off to raise her children and later returned to work at the Bon Marche's Redwood Room and Weinstock's Restaurant in the Ogden City Mall, retiring in 1993.
Jo had a strong faith in God. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, watching football (her favorite was John Elway and the Denver Broncos) and playing the slot machines in Wendover where she had a knack for winning.
She leaves behind three sons and their families whom she loved dearly, Rick (Lorraine) and their children Melissa and Tony; John (Linda) and their children Stephen and Michael; Joseph and his children Clay and Chris; brother Tom (Roseanne) Salazar; sisters Caroline and Ruby; special cousin Jo Gemar and her husband Rick; and special feline companion Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, brother Reverend Joe Salazar, parents, and special friend and Aunt, Mary Hamblin.
The family would like to thank Rick and Lorraine for much love and constant care and to Dr. Mohr, Nicole, McKell, Camille, and many other loving and compassionate caregivers with Hearts for Hospice. Mom considered you all as family.
