Heavenly Father called Joyce Edith Cross home to join her eternal partner Wilbert A. Cross on Saturday, 8 Nov 2008. Their family is thankful they are together again.
Joyce was born 11 Nov 1927 to Wallace Berton Henley and Esther Ella Dowker Henley, in Coronation, Alberta, Canada and was the eldest of 4 daughters. She grew up in Santa Rosa and San Rafael, CA.
Joyce and Will (Bill) met while he was stationed in San Francisco during WWII. They married 20 Dec 1945 in San Rafael, CA. She loved being a Navy wife and traveling; during their early marriage they lived in WA, CA and HI. Will retired from the Navy in 1961 and they moved back to WA where they finished raising their family. Both were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were sealed with their children in the Idaho Falls Temple 18 Jun 1963. Joyce served in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations; though what she loved most to do was missionary work.
A talented seamstress and artist, Joyce designed her own patterns and her family has many of her treasured oil portraits and landscapes. As her name implies, Joyce found joy in learning, self-improvement and growth. She left her family a legacy of giving service to others and a passion for improving our own families, one generation at a time.
They moved to Brigham City in 1975. They had also lived in OR, MO, NV and WA before moving back to UT in 2002 to live near family. She had struggled with Alzheimer's for several years.
Joyce is the mother of 4 children: Kathleen Dickson; Dora (Doug) Hobbs, of Brigham City; Ron (Deana) Cross of Hoover, AL; and Suzi (Marc) Butler of Granite Falls, WA; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Grace (Paul) Nason, of Portage, ME.
She was greeted on the other side of the veil by her loving husband, a daughter, Kathleen Dickson, 2 sisters, Marion (Brice) Barber and Gwyneth Reid, 3 grandsons: Baby Boy Hobbs, Tony Butler, and Nathan Pebley.
Services will be held Saturday, 15 Nov 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT.
Friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Mortuary.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
Joyce's family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation for the incredible care of those who served her from Pioneer Nursing and Rehab and from Alpine Hospice.
