PLEASANT VIEW - Surrounded by his family, Joyce Edwin Humphreys, age 83, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from causes incident to age at the McKay-Dee Hospital.

He was born December 14, 1922 in Ogden, the son of George Edward and Lillian Ruth Moore Humphreys.

He attended Weber County Schools graduating from Weber High, where he played football. He married Fern Taylor, his high school sweetheart, on June 25, 1942 in Preston, ID. Their marriage was later solemnized November 1969 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later the 8th Air Force) during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He arrived in England on June 6, 1943, serving for 33 months. He was very patriotic and was proud of the service he rendered to his country.

He was a high priest in the L.D.S. Pleasant View 1st Ward and held various positions including working with the Boy Scouts, the Young Men and was a faithful home teacher for many years.

Dad loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and spending time in the outdoors. Following the tradition of his father and grandfather, he was a life-long farmer. He was proud to be a second-generation descendant of Mormon Pioneers from the Willie Handcart Company. His ancestors were among the original settlers of Pleasant View. As a life long resident of that community he served many hours on the planning commission.

Joyce worked for the O.U.R.&D. Co., which later merged with the Southern Pacific Railroad, as a car inspector, retiring after 43 years of dedicated service. Towards the end of his career he also served as a union steward for the Brotherhood of the Railway Carmen.

He is dearly loved and will be missed by his family and friends and his little dog Susie.

He is survived by his wife, Fern; his children, Lynn E. (Cheryl) Humphreys, David S. (Debra) Humphreys, Julie (C. Ray) Moser, all of North Ogden; 13 grandchildren and
14 A 1/2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Altheen Toombs, North Ogden; LaVern Soelberg, Ogden; Helen (Gay) Pettingill, Willard and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Kenneth M. Humphreys.

Special thanks to Hospice Alliance and the many doctors and nurses who cared for Dad over the years. We extend our deepest appreciation to his personal angels Renae, Judy, Holly, Pat, Raelyn and Jennifer.
