Julia Taylor Cain Knopf Anderson

LAYTON - Julia Taylor Cain Knopf Anderson passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at Crestwood Care Center of causes incident to age.

Julia was born on Oct. 29, 1914 to Lee R and Florence Maud Taylor Cain. She attended school in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School and Utah State University. Following graduation she taught school in the Weber School District for three years. She then entered the Women's Army Corp (WAC) and served during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

She met Capt. John Raymond (Ray) Knopf at Ft. Riley, Kansas. They were married on Feb. 23, 1946 at Ft. Riley. She always enjoyed telling people that they went on a 6-week honeymoon and only spent $500. When they returned, they moved to Merchantville, New Jersey and there she became the mother to Ray's 2-year-old daughter Beverly. She was my dedicated Mom from that day forward. Dad died on Nov. 7, 1954. She and Beverly then moved back to her home in Ogden, UT.

Julia taught school in Ogden School District, mainly at Highland Jr. High School. She was an excellent teacher of English and P.E. She retired on Jul. 1, 1975. Everywhere she went, people would come up and tell her that they had been taught by her. They would always add that she was "the best teacher they ever had". That would always make her smile. She loved to teach and she loved the students that she taught.

Julia always loved to dance and many of her early days were spent at the White City and Berthana Ballrooms. She also loved the game of golf and enjoyed trips to Palm Springs each summer to watch the Bob Hope Classic. She was a member of the Riverside Ladies Golf Assoc. until she was 85 years old. She enjoyed traveling and took many wonderful trips during her lifetime. She was always on the "go" and it was very hard to find her at home.

She married Seville Shupe and they were later divorced. On July 30, 1978 she married Justin L. Anderson in Ogden, UT. They enjoyed life together traveling to Alaska on their honeymoon. They played golf and traveled. Sadly Justin passed away just nine months after they married Apr. 10, 1979.

As in much of Mom's life, she lived alone after Justin's death until Feb. 2000 when she moved in with her daughter Beverly and son-in-law Dennis. She loved to be picked up and taken to Autumn Glow Senior Center in Kaysville, UT. She looked forward to these visits every day, and we want to thank their staff for their kindness. She lived with us until Nov. 2003. She moved into the Emeritus Assisted Living. On Sat. Nov. 29th her tender bones could no longer hold her body and she broke her hip. After an operation and short stay at McKay-Dee Hospital, she moved into the Crestwood Care Center. We want to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of each of these facilities for their kind and tender care to Mom. We love each of you and so did she.

Julia was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various positions in the Young Women's and Relief Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Lee and Gus), one sister (Beth) and her two husbands.

She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Dennis) Bradford, six grandchildren (and spouses), and ten great-grandchildren.
