SUNSET - June A. Martin joined his wife of 75 years, six days after her passing, on September 9, 2010.
June, the oldest of six children, was the first baby boy born in Sunset 93 years ago on October 24, 1916, to Archie and Nancy Martin. He married the love of his life Thora Galloway on September 7, 1935 in Nampa, Oregon, and later solemnized in the Manti Temple September 7, 1950. He built her a home in Sunset in 1941 using reclaimed and salvaged materials and together they raised seven children; Gordon Martin (dec.), Lois Ellsworth (Jerry), Margie Nelson (dec.), Betty Martin (dec.), Connie Conatser (Mike), Dan Martin (Sherry), and Merry Graham. Their family has continued to grow to 30 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
June served as Elder and High Priest in the LDS Church. He worked for the Forest Service and spent 32 years working in the engineering department at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1972. Everyone could depend on June to get them out of a jam. He had an amazing talent of fixing just about anything using whatever materials necessary.
If he could imagine it he could build it. His handmade boat with retractable wheels, ditch digger, crane, horse and camping trailers were unique and one of a kind.
He enjoyed square dancing and had a great love for the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, riding horses, and working his ranch.
We will miss his dry sense of humor, and his love for teasing banter.
He is survived by his brother Fred Martin (Marty), and his sisters Marion Popham (James), and Joann Whitaker (VR).
We will say goodbye to them both at Funeral Services held Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah. Friends and family may call on Saturday from 11:00 - 12:45 p.m., prior to services.
Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.
