Junior Darrell Whitehead Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Ogden - Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Junior "Jay" D. Whitehead, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on November 26, 2012. He was born April 19, 1925 in Logan to John W. Whitehead and Edith M. Hubbard, and was raised on a farm in Topaz, Idaho. He married his sweetheart, Anna Murray, August 5, 1948. Their vows were solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple August 11, 1998, on their 50th wedding anniversary. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rock Cliff 6th Ward. He graduated from Lava Hot Springs High School, where he served as Class Vice President, and was the Band's first-chair trumpet for four years. Junior was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1943 during WW II, and served as an Aviation Machinist. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden after 39 years; he also worked for Henry's Service Station, and the Laidlaw Bus Co. Dad was a hard worker always providing for his family. Some of his interests included spending time with his family, repairing cars and household items; he was a great handyman. He enjoyed Big Band music and going to car shows with his 1965 Ford Mustang. He is survived by his children Susan (Bob) Morris, Craig (Sandy) Whitehead, Lori Tolsma, Kevin (Shari) Whitehead, and Murray (Gina) Whitehead; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, with 3 more on the way; and his brother Wallace Whitehead. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, sons Steven and Kim and granddaughter Mikell Morris, parents John and Edith Whitehead, and siblings Newell, Inez, Reed, Afton, Grant and Lowell. He will be missed by all of his family. May the memories he brought into each of our lives continue on in his legacy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday December 3, 2012 at the Ogden Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held on Sunday December 2, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and prior to services from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Wellsville City Cemetery.
