KAREN FRANSON ARAVE
ROY - Karen F. Arave, age 64, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2003 in Ogden, Weber, Utah after a valiant 20-year battle with cancer.
She was born June 20, 1938, in Oakley, Summit, Utah, to Amos A. and Leora Lake Franson. She was the second of five children.
On July 17, 1964, she was married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to Charles Parker Arave for time and all eternity by Elder Harold B. Lee. From this marriage came their four children, Richard, Todd, Marne', and Marlee. They made their home in Roy, Utah.
Karen has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the church and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She had the privilege of serving in many organizations and had numerous callings. She was called and served an honorable mission in the Northern California Mission. She and her husband, Charles, owned and operated their own photography business for over 36 years. They worked side by side and accomplished their goals and objectives together.
Karen loved her family and received great joy from the time she spent with her children and her precious grandchildren. She was involved in genealogy and family history and spent many hours searching out her ancestors and writing histories. She had many talents. She was a great cook, enjoyed music both singing and playing the piano, and crocheting. She enjoyed traveling and supported her family in all that they did. She gave them words of encouragement and positive actions. Karen loved gathering at family reunions with her family and also her extended family, especially the 4th of July reunion. She was loved by all those that knew her and she loved all her family and friends.
She attended Brigham Young University and also worked at the University of Utah. She most recently retired from the IRS. We express appreciation for the kind help and support that her friends and associates there gave to her. We especially want to thank Judy Lujan of Austin, Texas for her help and assistance on her retirement. She enjoyed serving her community and at various times served as a delegate with the Republican Party.
Karen is survived by her husband, Charles; two sons and two daughters, Richard Charles (Carolee) Arave of Cypress, Texas; Todd Franson (KennaRae) Arave, West Valley City, Utah; Marne' Ann (Kevin) Rice, Uintah, Utah; and Marlee Jo (Wesley) Allen-Arave, Albuquerque, New Mexico; ten grandchildren, Elli, Ian and Oakley Arave; Colin and Myranda Arave; Anna, Xander and Kaelan Rice; Nathan and Issac Allen-Arave; and her sisters and brother, Caleen (Max) Mawhinney; John (Kathy) Franson; Janet (Rondo) Jeffery; and Suzanne (Allan) Clegg.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
We would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Vincent L. Hansen and his personal staff and all the great doctors and staff at McKay-Dee Hospital for their kind care and consideration for her.
